Dr. Jean-Daniel Saphores is currently Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. He also has secondary appointments in the departments of Planning, Policy and Design and in Economics. Dr. Saphores was educated at Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris, France, the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Cornell University (Ithaca, New York), where he earned a PhD in Applied Economics with specializations in resource economics, statistics, and finance. Dr. Saphores is active as a university educator, researcher, and administrator, and for TRB, where he is a member of two committees (ADC70 and AW010) and the task force on the future of the National Household Transportation Survey (ABJ45T), which he will co-chair starting in April of 2014. For work on modeling emissions of air pollutants from trucks, he won TRB’s Pyke Johnson award in 2009. He has authored over fifty research articles and served as principal investigator or co-principal investigators on projects funded by NSF, the EPA, and the University of California Transportation Center (UCTC). He also worked for three years as a consulting engineer for Woodward-Clyde Consultants, in Denver, Colorado.
