Event Overview

Dr. Sofia F. Franco is an Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Dept. of Economics at UCI. An applied microeconomist, her research agenda lies at the nexus of environmental, urban, and transportation economics, focused on parking-related topics, the impact of parking policies on urban form and structure, commute mode choices, and prices. She uses state-of-the-art econometric and computable general equilibrium methods and geographical information tools to conduct theoretical and empirical assessments of major public policy issues. Her research has been presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed academic journals, and she has consulted with international, public and private organizations on transportation, urban development, housing affordability, and land use policies. Dr. Franco teaches undergraduate courses at UCI and is actively involved in the UC LIFTED program, which offers a bachelor’s degree to incarcerated students. She lectures in executive and master level programs. In her mentoring roles, she guides high school students on economics-related projects, mentors undergraduate students at UCI on honor theses and research projects, and serves as a supervisor and on committees for graduate students in master and Ph.D. programs.
