Abstract

This presentation from the Technical University of Munich’s Institute of Automotive Technology (Future Transport & Mobility group) surveys our ongoing research on the electrification of heavy-duty freight transport and the integration of battery-electric trucks (BETs) into both logistics operations and the energy system. Framing the “truck of the future” against external trends such as driver shortages, cost pressure, and fluctuating renewable supply, our work challenges multiple assumptions, such as that bidirectional charging is impractical for trucks and that trucks only earn money while driving.
