Geoffrey Vander Veen is an undergraduate student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Irvine’s Samueli School of Engineering, minoring in Urban and Regional Planning. Geoffrey joined ITS as part of the Transportation Research Immersion Program (TRIP). After completing the program, Geoffrey continued his research alongside Professor Michael Hyland. His research interests include public transit perception and safety, long-term transit planning, transportation equity, freeway removal, and emergency-response traffic management. He has extensive experience in coding, data analysis, and transportation modeling. His goal is to one day work in public agency transportation planning or rail logistics, with a focus on equitable and sustainable systems. When he’s not conducting research you can find him playing guitar at church, mountain biking, or rock climbing.
