Dr. Solmaz Kia’s specialty is in optimal decision-making for networked systems, optimization theory, probabilistic robotics, decentralized algorithm design, and control theory. Her research focuses on distributed optimization and multi-agent autonomy, including motion planning, cooperative navigation, sensor fusion, network coordination, and integrity monitoring.
After obtaining her Ph.D., Dr. Kia was a senior research engineer at SySense Inc., El Segundo, CA, from June 2009 to September 2010. She subsequently held postdoctoral positions in the MAE departments at the University of California, San Diego and UC Irvine.
Dr. Kia is an associate editor for IEEE Open Journal of Control Systems, Automatica, and IEEE Transactions on Control of Network Systems. She received the UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship (2012–2014), the NSF CAREER Award (2017), and the IEEE Control Systems Magazine Best Paper Award (2021). She is a Senior Member of IEEE.
