Siwei Hu is a recent PhD graduate in Transportation Systems Engineering at UC Irvine and current postdoctoral scholar for the Brain, Body, & Behavior Driving Simulation Lab (B3 DrivSim Lab) at UC Irvine’s School of Medicine. Siwei works closely alongside Dr. Federico E. Vaca conducting research on traffic safety and young driver behavior.

During his PhD journey from 2019 to 2025, Siwei’s research spanned peer-to-peer route choice collaboration, congestion pricing, transit design, and dynamic traffic assignment. His dissertation advanced theoretical modeling of day-to-day departure time dynamics at both corridor and network levels.

Siwei’s recent works span numerous topics including microtransit designs, fare structures, and their mobility and accessibility impacts. His research efforts emphasize innovation, integrating equity and efficiency into transit design. Siwei hopes his research will have an ever-lasting impact on this ever-changing world, shaping safer, more equitable transportation systems.

When Siwei isn’t engaging in research, you can find him performing Chinese traditional dances, building community at church, or browsing a local art museum.
