Project Summary

In 2014, the CEC sought to develop and implement a Natural Gas Vehicle Incentive Program as part of the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program that would directly benefit California’s economy and the environment by expanding the use of a domestically produced non-petroleum fuel that is a low-cost alternative to gasoline and diesel. In May of 2015, the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Irvine entered into agreement 600-14-006 to administer the CEC’s Natural Gas Vehicle Incentive Program. The scope of work for agreement 600-14-006 originally consisted of 7 original tasks: - Six administrative tasks focused on developing the voucher program and administering $10,187,000 in incentive funding. - One research task focused on studying the alternative fuel vehicle market. The agreement was later amended in December 2016 to add $11,616,000 natural gas incentive funding (making the total incentive funding $21,803,000) and a supplemental research task 8.
