Qi Alfred Chen (PhD University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on network and systems security, specifically considering software security, network protocol security, DNS system security, smartphone system security, CPS/IoT system security, access control system security, vulnerability discovery and analysis, side channel attack and defense. Specific applications he studies include security problems in smart systems and IoT. He has applied this expertise toward the analysis of security threats to connected and autonomous transportation systems in both the traffic control and autonomous vehicle domains and is extending these research efforts as a key contributor to the CARMEN UTC.
